Santa Rosa Dune Research

A fellow researcher looks through the device used to measure the sand dune’s volume

With the Land Use Management class I went to Santa Rosa Island. The purpose of the class was to observe how the different uses of the land over the years have affected the biology and geomorphology of the island.  One day my hiking group helped Kevin Gaston measure the volume of dunes for Professor Kiki Patsch’s research on dune formation on the islands.  My trip was relaxed compared to my previous trips on Santa Rosa Island.  I throughly enjoyed my  time and I was equally grateful that I was able to enjoy the time spent working to further understand how and why our beaches are.
