Malibu – Countyline

For this beach visit I decided to stop a well-known beach in Malibu known as Countyline. This beach is located 2 minutes north of Leo Carrillo and right across the famous restaurant called Neptune’s Net. Countyline is known for containing one of Malibu’s best surf breaks which is what makes this beach one of the most popular spots to surf. The waves at Countyline break throughout the entire beach, making it possible to have more options to choose where to surf on crowded days. The best spot on the beach to surf where the wave breaks at its best is right at the point where the cliff is located. This main point break on the beach near the cliff is known where most of the local’s surf so it is a very territorial place and beginner surfers tend to stay away from this part of the beach. The wave that breaks on this point is mainly a right which means if you’re a regular footed surfer it’ll be a better experience rather than if you’re a goofy footed surfer. Still because waves break throughout the whole beach, there plenty of waves where surfers can go either left or right when riding a wave. Countyline is also an ideal beach to learn how to surf for beginners up to advanced levels of surf experience, offering a variety of different waves from small crumbly waves to 6-foot steep waves. On days when the winds are offshore, waves that break have a good potential to barrel and turn the beach into a whole different situation. Next, for biodiversity, when it is low tide; tide pools form at the bottom of the cliff point making starfish, sea slugs and anemones visible. Unlike most beaches such as Zuma, where there tends to be a huge population of beach goers, Countyline is not known to be a tourist beach and will most of the time not be as heavily populated which makes it a great beach to visit with friends and family. There is one lifeguard tower on the center of the beach, giving lifeguards a great vantage point to see potential dangers such as rip tides. On days when the water is calm and smooth, visibility is at its best to the point that you can see the details underneath the water on the ocean floor such as sea kelp. To conclude, I recommend visiting this beach as it has plenty to offer to from visible biodiversity, light crowds of people, and world class waves.

That’s so cool ! I would’ve assumed that it would be heavily populated because it’s Malibu. This might be the beach where I finally attempt to surf haha

Thanks for all the info on surfing at this beach! Now I know to steer clear of the cliff area or I probably would’ve made a fool of myself. Glad this beach isn’t as crowded as Zuma.
