Venice Beach Clean Up

Two beach clean up volunteers carrying 4Ocean brand burlap bags to collect trash.

Venice beach, though a popular spot for many socal natives, I had not been to prior to this visit. This is mainly due to its reputation as a dirty beach as well as being known as a homeless hotspot. It was only fitting that my first visit to such a beach was to join for a beach clean up! I have to say I was still surprised by the lengths of trash present on the beach even with its extensive reputation of  being a highly dirty beach.  I even found a dirty diaper that algae had started to grow onto.   I won grossest find in my opinion. The beach is highly popular but not groomed often or at all towards the end of the beach where the land comes to a point due to a groin that is visible in the photo below in the background.  The was an increasing presence of rack along the beach when walking away from the pier towards the groin.  with this trend there was also an increasing presence of trash when walking in the same direction.  I believe this suggests that the beach is cleaned regularly whether by grooming or by people in most populated areas.  I have been to clean ups before but I must say this one was one of the worst!
